Finding Dory is the perfect sequel to Finding Nemo

Have you ever had something extremely important that you forgot or lost? Something where you get that “ah ha” moment and must go find the item of importance? Well, Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) has. As shown in the first movie created by Pixar and Disney, she has the tendency of forgetting things very easily. She has suffered from short-term memory loss ever since she was a kid.

While on a field trip with the school of fish and Mr.Ray, the stingray teacher, Dory and the rest of the class traveled to watch the stingray migration. There was an undertow in the current which reminded Dory of her childhood, leading her to remember her parents. This flashback of young Dory (Sloane Murray) is crucial and takes her, Marlin (Albert Brooks), and Nemo (Hayden Rolence) on a journey across the ocean to the Marine Life Institute in California. When the group reaches California, Dory gets separated from Marlin and Nemo but continues to pursue the search for her parents. In this pursuit, Dory meets up with an octopus named Hank (Ed O’Neill) who tries to help Dory find her parents even though at first, he couldn’t care less on whether she found them or not. His main goal was to get to the aquarium in Cleveland, where he could have a nice glass tank all to himself. Dory also meets up with her old “pipe pal” Destiny (Kaitlin Olson) the whale shark and Bailey (Ty Burrell) the beluga.

All the returning characters in Finding Dory were portrayed exactly the same as they were in Finding Nemo; they were consistent with Marlin’s overprotective father like figure, and Nemo’s innocence and thrill for adventure, as well as Dory’s upbeat nature and forgetful habits. The new characters that were featured in the movie were exceptional. They helped portray the different moods of the story, leading with a little tear jerker here or there, and followed with a light, easy chuckle to lighten the mood.

Disney and Pixar’s directors Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane did an amazing job on creating the sequel to Finding Nemo. I felt that this was an exceptionally cute movie. Going into this movie I had really high hopes, and as I came out of this movie, all my standards had been met. This movie was not only the cute and completely lovable little kids movie, but it was full of surprises and fun little flashbacks, as well as the stereotypical “happy ending.” To make the situation even better, this movie is on Netflix! They recently added this movie to their wide variety of streamable movies. This excites me because now I can watch this aquatic adventure on repeat.
