College Football Recap and Predictions
One of the most exciting moments of the year just passed by last week and boy was it a big hit. Week 1 of college football included some of the best games people have ever seen, and very well have included the most exciting game we have ever seen to open a college football season in Florida State vs. Alabama. The Seminoles vs the Crimson Tide attracted a solid 6.9 rating and the second most watched game was the Michigan Wolverines vs the Florida Gators at AT&T stadium in Dallas which got a 4.9.
Week 1 in review
Ohio State Vs. Indiana: The number 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes beat the unranked Indiana Hoosiers 49-21. Something you will not believed happened this game was that Indiana was leading going into the second half as was looking to shock the world! But Ohio State put the hammer coming out of the locker room, outscoring the Hoosiers 36-7.
Michigan vs Florida: Two very good teams defensively, and it was quite the defensive showdown in Dallas. The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Florida Gators 33-17 The Gators had two pick sixes, but the big story was the the Wolverines defense only holding Florida to 3 offensive points. Michigan outscored Florida 20-0 in the 2nd half.
Florida State vs. Alabama: Probably the most hyped up College Football opener ever. Two absolute heavyweights going at it coached by two hall of fame coaches combined for a 6.9 rating on national television. Jimbo Fisher, who is the head coach at Florida State used to be an assistant for Nick Saban at Alabama. Alabama won 24-7 because of the Tide’s great special teams and defensive efforts to force more and more Seminole turnovers
Week 2 Preview
14 Stanford vs. 6 USC (Tommy): A battle of some of the top teams in California! The Pac 12 is filled with talent and this game should be an interesting game on the calendar. Stanford dominated their opener against Rice while USC was almost shocked by Western Michigan. USC looks to be in the national title hunt being lead by phenom QB Sam Darnold. But don’t count Stanford out, they are ranked 14th in the country for a reason. The Cardinal defeated the Trojans the past 3 times these two teams met.
Predictions:
Nick- 42-31 USC
Jake- 35-10 USC
Tommy- 28-23 USC
Tobey- 31-13 USC
Jessica- 42-28 USC
5 Oklahoma vs. 2 Ohio State (Nick): Oklahoma and Ohio State are two of the top teams in the nation. It will be a game that will include potential heisman candidates along with an early bid to the playoffs. It will feature two senior quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and JT Barrett. The difference in the game will be Ohio State’s run attack. The dynamic duo of Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins will be too much for the Sooners to handle.
Predictions:
Nick- 42 – 28 OSU
Jake- 31- 27 Oklahoma
Tommy- 27-13 OSU
Tobey- 30-28 oklahoma
Jessica-28-21 OSU
15 Georgia vs 24 Notre Dame (Jacob): This matchup is between two very strong football teams. Both teams got off to a quick start in week one against smaller division one schools. Georgia had a dominant win against Appalachian State 31-10, and Notre Dame had a big win against Temple 49-16. The Georgia bulldogs are not favored in this game but I believe they will pull out the win on the road in South Bend. They have one of the best running backs in the nation in Nick Chubb who is trying to make his bid for the Heisman. Notre Dame is also a very streaky team as seen in the past couple of years, I think the defense of Georgia and the running of Nick Chubb will overpower the Irish’s defense.
Predictions:
Jake- 27-20 Georgia
Tommy- 35-21 Georgia
Nick- 31 – 28 Georgia
Tobey- 31-18 Georgia
Jessica-28-14 Georgia
Western Michigan vs. Michigan State (Jessica): This week’s game includes two teams close to home in which many students and families are excited to watch. Many are excited to watch the quarterback of Western Michigan,Jon Wassink, as he is a brother of Kelly Potts, a teacher here at FHC. Michigan State is coming out with respect for Western Michigan after giving USC a tough battle in their season opener. Michigan State has had time to prepare after a comfortable win over Bowling Green and Western Michigan is going to come out with a strong defense fight to the end.
Predictions:
Tommy- MSU 21-17
Tobey: MSU 24-20
Jake- MSU 27-23
Nick – 35 – 31 WMU
Jessica-28-21 MSU
13 Auburn vs 3 Clemson: (Tobey):
Neither of these two teams were tested in their first games as Clemson played Kent State and Auburn played Georgia Southern. Both of them rolled to an easy blowout victory. New quarterback Kelly Bryant looked great and with weapons like Deon Cain and new freshman running back Travis Etienne I think this offense is too much for Auburn to handle. Jared Stidham and Auburn will put up a fight and this game will be close.
Predictions:
Tobey: 35-20 Clemson
Tommy: 23-17 Clemson
Jake- 38- 31 Clemson
Nick- 31-38 War Eagle
Jessica- 35-21 Clemson
