The varsity tennis team beat the Lowell Red Arrows 8-0
On Monday, varsity tennis had a match against Cedar Springs winning with a score of 8-0. They continued their success last night against the Red Arrows of Lowell.
Senior Jack Ziegler dominates at two doubles helping to boost FHC to an 8-0 sweep. Jack and his partner Peyton Herbert had a tough match, but they powered through it. They shutout their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
“We played a smart match overall,” Jack said. “We were aggressive, but we picked and chose our spots to hit our big shots.”
Coach Dan Bolhouse thought the team took care of business with little trouble. He thought the doubles attacked the net and the singles worked hard. He was impressed with their consistency and waited for the openings. Dan Bolhouse is optimistic about what his team can do in the up and coming weeks.
“Our goal is to win the conference championship, the regional championship, and win the state championship,” Coach Bolhouse said. “I think if we work hard and get a couple good draws we will be there.”
Freshman Chris Battiste cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win with older brother Michael at three doubles. He believes the keys to their win included keeping the ball in and making their opponents miss.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season Chris has a couple of specific goals in mind.
“Long term goal is to win states,” Chris said. “We will start with conferences and work our way up from there.”
