The JV Field Hockey finishes off their season by winning the division
The United Junior Varsity Field Hockey team had an incredible season. Throughout the season they traveled all over the state of Michigan.
No matter where they played or who they played they won; they had an undefeated season until the very last game. In the Junior Varsity tournament, they made it to the final round but came up short. It was a very close throughout the game and it was a tough loss for the team to swallow, but it was still a great experience and competition for the team.
Freshmen Claire Bieniewicz had high expectations this past season. Those high expectations will carry over into her next season.
“The tournament was great. We made it to the final round but lost in an overtime shootout,” Claire who hit her personal record of fourteen goals this season. “We had lots of good competition. I am very proud of our team for coming in second place and just for overall working hard.”
There were many goals that Claire set for herself during the season, as many of the players did. She did feel that this has been the best season yet out of her field hockey career. As for next fall, Claire hopes to improve enough to join the varsity team.
Coach Brian Bruno has been very happy with the outcome of this season. He said the main goal throughout the whole season was the have fun, better the teams’ field hockey skills, and support the varsity team as much as possible. Every day the girls pushed themselves in practice to win their division, which they did accomplish.
As next season comes around the corner, Brian wants the girls to focus on their skills so they can play at the next level.
“Always looking to improve stick handling and positioning on the field,” Brian said. “I would also like to help them learn and prepare them for the varsity plays for their attack system.”
