Player Profile: Donald Alm

Name: Donald Alm

Grade: Senior

Sport: Varsity Wrestling

Weight class: 135

How long have you wrestled for?

“I have wrestled for 14 years.

Who inspired you to start wrestling?

“All of my brothers did before me and I started in 2003 with no real choice. Around 5th grade I started to wrestle fueled by my own ambition.”

What is the most difficult part about wrestling? Why?

“Trying to keep a positive mindset and think about wrestling and what moves you are going to hit in matches. Instead of what your next meal is (if you are cutting weight) and saying you can’t.”

What are your techniques for cutting weight?

“Drinking a lot of water, eating very healthy, and working out 2-3 times a day. Nearing the weigh-in day I back off some of the intake of food and water, but I don’t stop completely.”

Compare the individual aspect of the sport to the team aspect. How does the team help you?

“It is fascinating that a team sport can also be individual. The team helps the individuals strive for success individually by offering encouragement and forming relationships among the team which keep our spirits high and help us have a good season each year.”

What do you do in your offseason to prepare?

“I lift or run in the mornings, and attend offseason practices. Some years I go to intensive wrestling camps to keep my competitive edge over the next guy.”

What awards are you most proud of in your career at FHC?

“I have been on varsity for all of high school and I am a 2x Regional qualifier.”

What is your outlook for the season?

“We have a lot of hard working scrappy guys that are excited to go to practice. With the attitude that we have now, I wouldn’t be surprised if we made it to team states.”

Do you have any college plans for wrestling?

“At the moment no, but it depends on if any college is interested in me. It depends on how this season plays out for me as well.”
