Girls varsity basketball preview: East Grand Rapids Pioneers
Coming off its third win in a row against Wyoming on Tuesday, the girls varsity basketball team heads to East Grand Rapids tonight to face off against a very talented 10-3 Pioneer team.
With an extremely experienced starting lineup as well as a deep bench, EGR will possibly be the biggest challenge FHC has seen this season. The Pioneers are expected to press all game while playing a scrappy and an effective man defense. On the offensive side, they have a very threatening trio: an always-accurate shooting guard, an aggressive forward, and a playmaking point guard that’s averaging 17 points per game.
Leaders on the Ranger defense such seniors Breanna Probst and Madi Winter and junior Claire Baguley will have to bring their airtight defense and lock down on EGR’s star players. All of FHC’s players on the floor, however, have to play stellar defense to limit the points of this all-around team. In addition to holding the Pioneers to as few points as possible, FHC’s shots must fall in order for them to keep up with the opponent tonight.
A win tonight would be a huge momentum boost for the 8-5 Rangers, as they get ready to head into their second round of conference games. Win or lose, this game will be motivating for FHC as they take on the Northview Wildcats at home next Tuesday.
