Girls varsity basketball preview: Greenville Yellowjackets

After a big win over Northview on Tuesday, the Lady Rangers have regained momentum and will look to carry over the energy from last game into tonight’s matchup with an 8-7 Greenville team. When these two teams met earlier in the season, FHC was victorious 36-29.

Key players in the last game against the Yellowjackets were seniors Breanna Probst and Madi Winter and junior Claire Baguley. Breanna played the entire game on Greenville’s leading scorer and held her to the fewest points she had all season. This relentless pressure forced Greenville to put a different player at the point guard position. Breanna will guard this threat once again tonight.

Claire, the usual leading scorer for the team, had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the last game against the Yellowjackets. Madi was a big part of feeding Claire and other Rangers the ball and ultimately ran the offense. In Tuesday’s game, Madi was injured and will not be able to play in tonight’s game. This leaves big shoes to fill, in which freshman Zoe Lipke will step into to run the offense from the point guard position. Zoe has experience in this role, as she was the starting point guard for the first five games of the season.

A key tonight will be keeping the Yellowjackets’ best player to limited points and playing cohesive offense. The Lady Rangers are confident going into tonight’s game and look to get another win in order to keep the momentum rolling.
