Girls varsity basketball preview: Ottawa Hills Bengals
Coming off of a key win on Friday over Lowell, the Lady Rangers are on a four-game win streak heading into tonight’s matchup against Ottawa Hills. Last time the Bengals and Rangers faced off, FHC was victorious 59-47.
While the Rangers dominated last game, the victory margin could have been much larger. FHC allowed Ottawa Hills to earn 19 offensive rebounds, as well as shooting 30% from the free throw line against a frequently fouling Bengals defense. Tonight, the team looks to capitalize on opportunities.
Another advantage for FHC tonight will be the return of senior Madi Winter from her injury. Despite other players, such as senior Emma Yoder and junior Claire Baguley, stepping up in Madi’s absence, her return will only benefit this team. In the last game against Ottawa Hills, Madi earned 15 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Having the full starting lineup will also help the Rangers to jump out to an early lead over the Bengals.
The win over previously undefeated Lowell put the Rangers only one game behind the conference-leading Red Arrows. Two wins this week for FHC will guarantee at least second place in the conference, unless Lowell were to lose. One loss for Lowell this week would give FHC shared conference title, and two Lowell loses would give the Rangers the outright conference championship title.
