Varsity baseball takes the series against Northern
Home field advantage proved to be a big factor in FHC’s conference series against Forest Hills Northern. The Rangers were able to win both games at home in the doubleheader but fell to the Huskies on the road the next day. This 2-1 outing puts FHC at 4-1 on the season and in the OK White.
In game one, the first three innings were scoreless between the crosstown rivals. Two big offensive innings late in the game from FHC cracked it open and led to the 7-1 final score. 4 runs in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th left the Huskies with no response. Senior captain Jake Heilman led the team with 3 RBIs, while he and junior Joe Szczepanek had 2 hits in the game. Senior captain Nate Doolittle took the mound to go 6 innings strong with 12 strikeouts.
The second game of the night on Friday ended with another FHC victory, this time being much closer with a final score of 4-2. Senior Michael Peliotes led the team with 2 hits in this game and had 1 RBI along with Jake, Nate, and senior captain Miko Rodriguez. Both senior Johnny Irish and junior Adam Tellier took the mound in game two. Adam had 5 strikeouts while Johnny had 2.
In the final game of the series, the Huskies came out hot to maintain a 6-0 lead after 4 innings. The Rangers came back to take a 7-6 lead after the top of the 9th, but Northern responded to win on a walk-off single with a final score of 8-7. While FHC had 13 hits to FHN’s 9, the Rangers committed 2 errors in the game. Senior Matt Candela had 2 RBIs, while Johnny and Nate had 2 hits apiece, both with a single and a double.
The Rangers will travel to Northview Monday, April 23 for a conference doubleheader.
