Varsity softball wins after offensive explosion and lights-out pitching performance
After dropping the series to Northview in tough fashion, varsity softball bounced back hard against the Yellow Jackets of Greenville in their conference makeup game. Behind junior Tori MacLeod’s no-hitter, along with a 12-hit performance from the offense, FHC was able to mercy through Greenville with ease 11-0.
After Greenville knocked Tori around in her last outing against them on the road, she bounced back exquisitely as she just about faced the minimum through five. One walk was the only thing that held her back from perfection.
The offense was hot early on for FHC, as they scored a quick six in the bottom of the first. Juniors Valerie Nuffer and Alex VanElls came up big with back-to-back doubles to lead off the night, followed by a Maizey Szczepanek sac-fly to put Alex on third. Junior Hailey Enbody and Molly Donovan also came up with back-to-back doubles with two outs and runners on. The Rangers went into the top of the second up 6-0.
The bats then fell quiet for two innings before exploding again in the bottom of the fourth. Five straight hits for FHC gave the Rangers five more runs and put them over the mercy rule before entering into the top of the fifth. Tori then slammed the door shut and finished off her masterful pitching performance.
Valerie, Tori, and Molly all had multiple hits for FHC, and they all combined for four RBIs on the night. Hailey also picked up a pair of RBIs throughout the night.
FHC has another quick turnaround, as they play tonight against Unity Christian on the road. They look to keep the bats hot and take a pair of wins from Unity.
