JV softball goes 1-2 at Portage Tournament
JV softball travelled to Portage Central yesterday for a three-game tournament among teams across the state. FHC went 1-2 on the day with a couple players showing up big.
Game one saw a 15-1 loss for FHC to Vicksburg. While freshman Kylie Halverson went 2-2 and sophomore Jordyn Carlson went 1-2, these were the only hits of this quiet offensive game.
FHC bounced back for game two to take a big 15-5 win over Northview. Kylie again added two hits, along with sophomores Caitlin Snyder and Val Gill earning multiple hits. Freshman Bela Gonzalez had a huge game, going 4-4 with a base-clearing triple.
Game three was another tough loss to Grandville. FHC’s defense couldn’t shut down the high offensive production and took 17-2 loss. Despite quiet bats from most of the Rangers, Kylie went 2-2 and Caitlin had a big double and both RBI’s of the game.
A tough couple days against talented opponents changed FHC’s undefeated record in a hurry, now being 8-4. However, the Rangers remain 5-0 in the conference and will look to remain unbeaten in the OK White as they face Cedar Springs this week for a conference series.
