Varsity baseball blows past Ottawa Hills for two big wins
The varsity baseball team hosted Ottawa Hills last night and cruised to two easy wins in three innings. The Rangers move to 11-4 (10-3), as they won 18-2 and 27-0 over the Bengals.
FHC put up 16 runs in the first inning alone, with senior Miko Rodriguez leading the team in RBI’s with 5. Miko, along with junior Joe Szczepanek, went 3-3, as well as 4 other players going 1.000 at the plate. The Rangers added 2 more in the bottom of the second, and a 2 run third inning from the Bengals was not enough to escape the run rule.
Junior Cole Coughlin took the mound, striking out 6 and giving up only 1 hit. FHC committed 4 errors behind Cole, as both of Ottawa Hills’ runs were unearned.
Game two was more of the same as FHC racked up 22 hits to score 17 runs in the first and 10 in the second. Junior Connor Palmitier completed the three inning shutout, striking out 2 and walking 1.
Senior Johnny Irish led the team by going 3-3 with two doubles and a triple, 3 runs scored, and 7 RBIs. Every single batter in the Ranger lineup got on base in this game, with many hitting 1.000. FHC also had 7 doubles and 3 triples through the lineup.
The Rangers will host Wyoming tonight for a non conference doubleheader and travel to Ottawa Hills tomorrow to complete the sweep of the Bengals.
