Varsity baseball picks up two wins over South Christian
The varsity baseball team traveled to Cornerstone University for a double header against South Christian last night. After two solid pitching performances, the Rangers walked out with 2-0 and 6-3 wins.
Junior Cole Coughlin took the mound in the game-one shutout. Cole allowed only 5 hits and walked 1, while striking out 3. Despite 2 defensive errors from the Rangers, they were able to keep South Christian from crossing the plate.
The fourth inning was where the offense was finally able to move some runners around to score. Senior Miko Rodriguez walked, followed by a senior Michael Peliotis triple. Senior Jake Heilman then singled to drive in FHC’s only 2 runs of the night.
The second game of the night was much closer. Michael singled in the first to take the lead 1-0 before South Christian responded in the second to knot it at 1. 5 more runs from the Rangers was too much, and South Christian could only put up 2 more. The Rangers managed 8 hits in this game, with juniors Adam Tellier and Carl Mielock earning multiple hits. Michael led the team in RBIs with 2, and Adam scored the most on the team with 3 runs.
Junior Jacob Hornbeck got the win for the Rangers. He allowed only 4 hits, and 1 earned run. The defense again had 2 errors, but was able to compensate at the plate.
FHC moves to 19-6 on the season and travels to Hudsonville today before taking on the Fruitport Trojans next week.
