JV softball drops both games of double header to Lowell
Junior Maddy Wahl went 3-5 on the night to lead the Rangers’ offense against a talented Lowell team. The Red Arrows were able to earn a 16-2 mercy in five innings in game one and squeaked out a 6-3 win in game two for the sweep over FHC.
Freshman Alyssa Wierenga took the circle in the first game to allow 16 runs on 14 hits with 1 strikeout and 2 walks. The defense thoroughly struggled, committing 8 errors to allow Lowell to get ahead early and win big in five innings.
Junior Katie Willemin hit 1.000 in this game with 2 base hits, while Maddy and freshman Leanna Clark each went 1-2 at the plate.
Game two was a much closer matchup, as it lasted all seven innings and came down to just 3 runs. Lowell had a big rally to put up a 5-run inning, sparked by 5 hits in a row including 2 doubles and a triple. The Rangers were not able to catch up and dropped a close one 6-3.
Sophomore Bela Gonzalez pitched in this game to allow 6 runs on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and just 1 walk. The defense greatly improved in the second game and committed just 1 error.
Maddy led the offensive charge by going 2-3 at the plate, while Bela and freshman Remmie Gavle each picked up a base hit.
After getting swept by Lowell in this conference series, the Rangers fall to 5-10 (5-6). Weather permitting, FHC will go on the road to Mona Shores tonight for a non-conference doubleheader.
