JV Volleyball competes in two quads the first week in season
The JV Volleyball team had a busy first week back. On Tuesday, they had a home quad against Hudsonville, Unity Christian, and Grand Rapids Christian. On Thursday, they played at the EK Freshman/JV Invite against Byron Center, Grand Haven, and Caledonia.
Tuesday was the girls’ first quad of the season, and they were excited to get out on the court and play again. They went 1-2, losing to Hudsonville and Unity Christian and defeating Grand Rapids Christian. Being it was their first matches back, the girls had some trouble trying to find their rhythm and are still learning how to mesh as a team on the court.
On Thursday, the girls went 3-0. They won both matches against Byron Center, winning 26-24 and 25-15. They also won both matches against Grand Haven, with scores of 25-18 and 26-24. It was a harder fight against Caledonia; they went on to play three matches, winning the first 25-18, losing the second 25-22, and winning the third 15-8. The team played much better together at this quad and showed what they could do. Freshman Kate Hotaling, the team’s libero, showed great leadership and helped to direct her team on the defensive end. With this combination, the team ended Thursday night on a high note.
The girls are looking forward to the rest of the season, and with more practice, they will be able to bring together the new and returning players and create team comradery. The team’s next event is the Battle of the Hills at home, on September 10th at 4:30 PM.
