The FHC Cross Country teams take fourth and first in their second Jamboree
The FHC cross country teams had their second jamboree last night at Cedar Springs. They ran against five schools: Cedar Springs, Forest Hills Northern, Lowell, Greenville, and GR Northview. The boys took home fourth place while the girls took first. It was a hot, steamy day yesterday, making the course a bit more difficult, but the teams put forward their best effort to place well.
Junior Whitney Currie was once again the lead runner for FHC. Out of the 100 overall runners, Whitney took fourth place with a speedy time of 19:52.92. The Ranger’s second runner was senior Ally Francisco in fifth place, finishing with a time of 20:56.89. Finishing only 3 seconds behind Ally was Nicole Marco in sixth place with a time of 20:59.76. The girls team was extremely excited with achieving first place and proud that their hard work paid off. Since the girls team beat FHN in this jamboree and Northern won the first, they are now competing for the conference title.
For the boys, senior Gabe Carlson took second place out of 143 runners, finishing with a time of 16:39.52. Sophomore Sam Yeager finished in 15th place with a time of 17:26.69. Trailing Sam was junior Kyle James-Heer in 19th place, finishing with a time of 17:34.33. The boys all finished close to one another and with very good times. They worked very hard throughout the race and their perseverance allowed them to take fourth place against tough competition.
The Rangers did very well last night and are excited for the races to come. The next event is on Saturday, September 21st at the Cougar Falcon Invite. The girls team will take off at 9:45 AM and the boys team will start at 10:15 AM.
