Girls JV field hockey triumphs over Detroit Country Day 5-0
The girls JV field hockey team extended its undefeated streak as a combined squad on Saturday. The team has achieved 4 wins ever since the JV purple and JV white teams merged together. The girls traveled to Detroit to take on Detroit Country Day, and they came home successful after a 5-0 win. The scoring opportunities were spread out yet again, and the team also had a stellar defensive outing.
Three different players on the team scored: senior Kirsten Szost from Jenison opened the scoring with the first goal for the team, and she was followed up by FHE sophomore Eileen Grunwald, then freshman Raven Kincaid from FHN. These three girls combined for the team’s 5 total goals. Those goals would not have been possible without the great opportunities set up by the team’s offense. This game included another exceptional performance from the defense as well, who forced another shutout on the season.
After scoring 8 goals in its last three matches, the team’s offensive production has skyrocketed. Combined with 2 allowed goals in those three matches, the team’s defense has continued to keep its opponents out of the attacking zone. The girls will play their next game on September 28th against Mercy High School at East Grand Rapids.
