Gymnastics team continues to improve at past two meets

The past two meets have gone very well for the varsity gymnastics team. Last week, the girls competed at the Rockford Flip-Flop Invite against 14 different teams. Unfortunately, due to injury, the girls were not able to achieve a final score, but many of the competing girls placed well. This week, the girls competed at Kenowa Hills, getting a great score of 139.4

At the Rockford Flip-Flop Invite, FHN’s junior Hannah Chadwick placed first on the bars and third on the beam, and FHN’s sophomore Alyssa Wierenga placed ninth on the beam. The team was amazingly supportive of each other, so the atmosphere was extremely positive throughout the meet. The girls pushed each other to do their best and have supported each other through the injuries.

At Kenowa Hills, the girls scored very high considering the team only came close to a score of 139 the entire season last year. FHC’s seniors Olivia Jeong and Hannah Walters had a good meet that night. They are always there for the team to achieve high numbers to bump up the overall score. FHC’s freshman Lauren Wolffis also competed well during this meet, and her positive and bright attitude also helped the team get through the tense moments of the night, making it run much more smoothly.

“The energy and light-heartedness of this years team has shifted my perspective so much and made the sport enjoyable rather than a stressful mind game like previous years,” Olivia said.

Next up for the girls is a meet at Rockford on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 PM.
