Boys varsity basketball beats Cedar Springs 55-39 as three players score in double-digits
The boys varsity basketball team played on the road Tuesday night as they took on the Cedar Springs Red Hawks. The Rangers were victorious as they beat the Red Hawks by a score of 55-39. After securing another win in their second conference game of the season, the boys’ record moves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Cedar Springs sprung out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter—this was their largest lead of the game, which was decimated less than two minutes later as the Rangers evened up the score at 7-7. Throughout the first half of the game, neither team could surge ahead, and the lead changed five times in the second quarter alone.
In the third quarter, however, the Rangers took control of the game; they didn’t lose the lead during any point of the quarter and when the buzzer sounded to signify the end of the third, the Rangers were up 42-25. The fourth quarter was quite similar as the point differential was almost identical to what it was at the start of the quarter, and the game ended in a 55-39 FHC victory.
Three Rangers scored in double-digits en route to the boys’ win. The leading scorer was senior Jimmy Scholler, who put up 15 points. He was followed up by senior Mitchell Wilkinson and junior Chris Battiste, who scored 12 and 10, respectively. Jimmy also led in blocks, with two, and Mitchell led with three assists and two steals. The two-point shooting clicked yet again as the team’s percentage was an impressive 59.3%.
This extends the team’s win streak to four, winning all of its games since dropping its season opener. The boys’ next challenge will be another in-conference matchup on Friday, January 17th at 7 pm when the Lowell Red Arrows come to visit Forest Hills Central.
