Boys freshman basketball falls to East Grand Rapids 56-39

The boys freshman basketball team suffered an unfortunate loss last night to the East Grand Rapids Pioneers 56-39. This loss snaps a seven-game win streak for the Rangers.

The team was not able to get anything going from the beginning. Shots were not falling, which caused them to be at a 19-9 disadvantage after the first quarter.

“[We] really struggled shooting the ball tonight,” head coach Adam Monroe said. “[We] never could get that momentum that we desperately needed.”

The boys were able to end the half on a run, cutting the Pioneer lead to only three. Unfortunately for the boys, the Rangers came out ice cold in the third quarter, just barely staying in reach of the game. They were able to keep it close until about two minutes left in the third quarter when the Pioneers started to break away. Up until that point, the Rangers were always within striking distance, making a few runs to take the lead only for it to be stripped soon after.

“The best part about Tuesday games is the opportunity to bounce back two days later. We have to learn from it and move forward,” Adam said.

This loss brings the Rangers record to 8-2 and 5-0 in the conference. On Thursday, the boys encounter a very tough Northview team that is 9-0. It will be a huge game considering the conference standings on the line.
