Boys varsity basketball picks up 69-43 conference win over Northview

Senior Jimmy Scholler’s 27 points helped lift the boys varsity basketball team over the Northview Wildcats 69-43 on Friday. This win comes after the boys dropped their second game of the season on Tuesday 55-52 at East Grand Rapids. Northview was not a team the Rangers expected to take lightly as the Wildcats came into this matchup with an 8-3 overall record and a 4-1 record in the OK White.

The boys dominated all four quarters in this game, and it was evident even at halftime when the score was 39-15 that the Rangers would walk out of the Northview gym with a win. Northview scored the first four points of the game, but the boys went on an early 12-4 run to pull it back in their favor. In the second quarter, the boys dominated as they outscored Northview 20-5.

After halftime, neither team really outscored the other, but the damage was already done as the score was 51-27 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The boys outscored Northview yet again in the fourth quarter 18-16 as the game finished in a Ranger victory with a score of 69-43.

Jimmy led the Rangers in scoring with his 27 point performance, and he also had three assists, three steals, and a block. Senior Mitchell Wilkinson’s six assists tied with junior George Hatchett for the most assists from any player on the team in this game and Mitchell finished in double-digits in points as well by scoring 13 points.

Junior Jonah Spates was a force on the defensive end as he finished the game with four steals; Jimmy recorded three steals and junior Peyton Bush had two steals and the team finished with 12 total steals. The boys had two blocks in this game including the one from Jimmy—junior Chris Battiste had the other block.

With another conference win, the boys are still undefeated in the OK White at 6-0 and are 9-2 overall. Their next match will be a test on the road against 10-1 Wyoming on Tuesday, February 4th at 7:00 pm.
