Boys varsity basketball clinches share of conference championship with 57-41 win over Northview

The boys varsity basketball team earned a share of the OK White conference championship on Friday with a win over the Northview Wildcats 57-41. Senior Jimmy Scholler scored 26 points in this game to lead the Rangers to victory; this game concludes the team’s conference schedule as it finishes 11-1 in the OK White.

Along with Jimmy’s 26 points in this game, he had five assists, two blocks, and a steal to cap off his great performance, and he was followed up in points by junior Jonah Spates—who had nine. Senior Mitchell Wilkinson and junior Chris Battiste combined for the majority of the team’s assists as they had three each, and Chris had an additional three blocks, four steals, and six points.

The team dominated the entire game, outscoring the Wildcats in every quarter en route to the victory. Northview quickly mounted a lead at the beginning of the game, leading until just under three minutes were left in the first quarter; however, the boys would go out in front after an and-one from Jimmy, and they led for the remainder of the game. A 10-0 run before the end of the first brought the score to 13-12 in favor of FHC when the buzzer sounded. Defense was the main theme of the second quarter; for the last six minutes, the team only allowed two points as it went into the locker room up 26-19 at halftime.

Similar to the first quarter, a late third quarter 13-3 run that stretched into the early fourth extended the boys’ lead to 43-30, and in the fourth quarter, both teams would fight back and forth until the Rangers scored five of the last seven points in the game as it ended in a 57-41 victory.

The boys are now 14-4 overall and hold a share of the OK White conference championship with an 11-1 record. If Forest Hills Northern loses against Northview on Tuesday, the Rangers will be the outright conference champions. Their next game will be their second-to-last of the year as the matchup takes place at home against Grandville on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:00 pm.
