Girls golf team takes first place at Gracewil

The girls varsity golf team won its tournament at Gracewil Country Club on Friday with a combined score of 356. Senior Maddie Knoor tied her career-best with a fantastic score of 83, good for a second-place individual finish.

“Maddie continues to be solid,” head coach Paul TenEyck said.

Due to COVID, pairings for high school events have been altered to abide by the restrictions. Schools usually would be paired up with other schools, resulting in players playing with girls that they are unfamiliar with. The new rule for this season is that the girls now play with their own teammates. Maddie has been able to capitalize on leading the team in this aspect.

“This year we play in groups with our own teammates, so I think that makes the round a lot more fun and relaxed,” Maddie said. “It is fun for me to be able to lead and prepare them for the future of FHC golf.”

Freshman Skyler Tierney really helped the Rangers get off to a strong start, recording birdies on three of her first six holes.

“Skyler started really well for us,” TenEyck said. “For the team, it was a confidence booster.”

The girls’ next match is on Monday, September 14, at Cascade Hills Country Club. The Rangers look to build on their success in the Grand Rapids Christian Jamboree.
