Nova Wilson, Staff Writer

Nova is entering their second year on The Central Trend. They developed a love for writing in middle school and have been ever since. Nova is excited to continue this pursuit as they continue to develop their writing. The majority of their time is spent practicing color guard or cozying up with a classic book, while the rest of their time is spent with family and friends or driving around in their car, Dorothy. Nova looks forward to wrapping up their time at FHC and celebrating the next chapter of their life.

At the end of band camp, there is a dance. Although dance is a strong word for it, several dozen sweaty kids pile into the school gym as music blasts from a disco speaker. It always begins with classic...

The magic of winter will never be forgotten, no matter how ephemeral it is.

The winters from long ago are no longer

Nova Wilson, Staff Writer January 14, 2026

The snow glistens outside the drive-thru window as it makes the slow descent from dark clouds to powder the earth. An untouched, ephemeral sheet of white will soon cover the branches, roads, and roofs...

Today: To be young and hopeless in America

Nova Wilson, Staff Writer October 24, 2025

Today, I am horrified. I am horrified by the state of my country and by the polarization of its people. There is a cavern that has grown between neighbors on the Left and Right while America hangs in the...

Humanity is found in the moments when society struggles, but easily lost amidst polls and votes.

The lost art of humanity

The trees outside the window of my childhood bedroom flutter in the summer breeze. The final summer in this room, in my childhood. This is the end of my innocence, my naivety. Waking up to weekend breakfasts...

Despite life not being exactly what I planned, I am grateful for every moment and opportunity.

Sixteen isn’t so pretty

Nova Wilson, Copy Editor February 25, 2025

When I was little, I believed my life would begin the day I turned 16. I thought I would have everything figured out. Watching coming-of-age movies, I saw an example of what my life would soon become....

There are thousands of moments that I wish I had appreciated more, but they were obscured by the anxieties of life.

I live for the memories I have not yet made

Nova Wilson, Copy Editor January 14, 2025

I live in adoration of what will be: the future apartments and careers, experiences and successes. I spend my life planning the next step—the next big moment. I am always looking to the future as...

To Mom, I cannot express how thankful I am for you. In the past two years, we have gotten so much closer, and I am beyond thankful that I can come to you when I don’t know what to do or if I need...

If the world went silent

Nova Wilson, Junior Writer November 6, 2024

Whenever the road by my house goes silent, it feels like the world has stopped. The noise of cars and planes passing my childhood home was compulsory in games of tag and time spent on the trampoline....

The impact of overconsumption in fast fashion has irreparable damage on the environment.

Microtrends and microplastics

Nova Wilson, Junior Writer September 24, 2024

In recent years, overconsumption has plagued social media platforms in the form of new “must-have” clothing, accessories, and makeup emerging every week. Many people run to the store to purchase what...
