Sophia Mix, Junior Writer

Sophia is in their freshman year and is starting their time at FHC with being a junior writer on The Central Trend. They love writing and are excited for other people to read their stories and see what they have to offer. They are obsessed with all things water polo, both playing on the school team and watching the Olympic games when they roll around. When not in the water, they are playing the viola, starting a new knitting project (but never finishing), biking along Old 28th Street, or attempting a new creative makeup look. They are always overthinking about what the future holds but still try to stay in the moment and enjoy every day. While both nervous and excited about starting the next chapter of their schooling, they plan on making the most of the next four years.

Favorite story type: Lifestyle

Since the dawn of Dec. 1, all my friends and classmates haven’t stopped talking about the upcoming two weeks off from school. It seems to be the only thing entertaining their thoughts. And I don’t...

Oxford Dictionary's word of the year for 2024 was brain rot.

Slang words are cycling through popular vocabulary faster than before, connecting to a societal “need for speed”

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer December 11, 2024

I, unfortunately, am a victim of brain rot.  Despite my efforts to avoid being influenced by the cacophony of Gen Alpha memes, I find myself saying “demure,” “erm,” and “queen never cry”...

I've been so lucky to go to New York with my best friends.

I am so lucky: thoughts in between homework assignments

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer December 4, 2024

I feel that I am so lucky. I have friends—more than friends—that have loved me through multitudes of rock bottoms. I have a family that has accepted me and learned from me and my unique experiences,...

TCT’s The Countless Thanks 2024: Sophia Mix

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer November 26, 2024

I’ve been dreading writing this. I don’t entirely understand why but I think it might be because I couldn’t choose what to write about. I also hate talking about my feelings. Aunt Lacey, for accepting...

While traveling can be relaxing, there's a good deal of stress to go along with it as well.

In order to destress from vacation anticipation, use these four tips when packing your bags and preparing for any trip

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer November 20, 2024

I am chronically late for everything. I always have been. I’m even starting this lifestyle on the day it’s due. I’m also always running behind when it comes to packing for trips. No matter what,...

Claudia Salas-Martin is adjusting well to being a new exchange student at Forest Hills Central High School

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer November 15, 2024

In Spain, mealtime is much later in the day, as exchange student and sophomore at Central High School Claudia Salas-Martin has noticed. A jarring difference for sure, but it’s only one of the few...

Curly hair routines have taken the Internet by storm, and with it controversy around who really has curly hair.

Curly hair routines don’t seem like much on the surface but, in reality, they carry the weight of texturism and hair discrimination

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer November 8, 2024

Three years ago, I would've told you I had straight hair. But when I was in seventh grade, I was influenced by the “finding out I have curly hair” social media phenomenon and subsequently discovered...

A skirt I thrifted while visiting Barryton, Michigan because of their annual Lilac Festival.

For the Goodwill on Kraft

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer November 4, 2024

To the threads woven together into a complex tapestry of open arms, I love you.  The rough, wool fibers that squeak when they rub against each other intertwine to create one cohesive piece of clothing...

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer October 31, 2024
