Sophia Mix, Staff Writer

Sophia is in their freshman year and is starting off strong by being a Staff Writer on The Central Trend. They love writing and are excited for other people to read their stories and see what they have to offer. They are obsessed with all things water polo, both playing on the school team and watching the Olympic games when they roll around. When not in the water, they are playing the viola, starting a new knitting project (but never finishing), biking along Old 28th Street, or attempting a new creative makeup look to post on Instagram. They are always overthinking about what the future holds but still try to stay in the moment and enjoy every day. While both nervous and excited about starting the next chapter of their schooling, they plan on making the most of the next four years.

Favorite story type: Editorial/Review

Michigan, my one true love

Sophia Mix, Staff Writer February 26, 2025

I love Michigan.  Though I fantasize about packing up and moving to some small town in Oregon, Old 28th Street and the simplistic summers spent biking to the farmer’s market I’ve visited since...

Even since the 1800s, queer women have not only existed, but also persevered.

This can be only for us: reflections on queer women of the Victorian Era

In swoops and curls of letters written long ago, I see a young woman writing to her lover. She is smiling, her eyes closed. While she is resting on a walnut chair as she writes, in reality, her mind...

GNX by Kendrick Lamar has achieved social media fame, and rightfully so.

Kendrick Lamar’s GNX has entirely changed my perception of rap music

Sophia Mix, Staff Writer January 27, 2025

Rap fans of the United States are no stranger to diss tracks; from Tupac and Biggie to Jay-Z and Nas, rap “beef” has existed since the birth of the genre. And at the end of last year, two musicians—Drake...

I didn't "always know something was different," but that doesn't make me any less trans.

I wish I wasn’t trans: a sadly necessary PSA

Today, my teacher was looking at the stickers on my computer. She stared at the one that takes up the most space: a butterfly colored yellow, black, purple, and white—the non-binary flag colors—with...

This will be my life only if I let it

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer December 13, 2024

Since the dawn of Dec. 1, all my friends and classmates haven’t stopped talking about the upcoming two weeks off from school. It seems to be the only thing entertaining their thoughts. And I don’t...

Oxford Dictionary's word of the year for 2024 was brain rot.

Slang words are cycling through popular vocabulary faster than before, connecting to a societal “need for speed”

Sophia Mix, Junior Writer December 11, 2024

I, unfortunately, am a victim of brain rot.  Despite my efforts to avoid being influenced by the cacophony of Gen Alpha memes, I find myself saying “demure,” “erm,” and “queen never cry”...
