Maurielle Hayes finds parts of herself in The Lego Batman Movie
Senior Maurielle Hayes has seen just as many movies as the next person; however, one of them will always stand out in her mind as the best.
“I think [The Lego Batman Movie is] a cinematic masterpiece,” Maurielle said. “The dialogue is fantastic; the characters are well developed. Batman is the greatest main character of all time—specifically Lego Batman. I base a good portion of my personality off of his.”
Maurielle is a big fan of The Lego Batman Movie. She loves the way that Bruce Wayne is portrayed, and she relates a lot to the character. She feels as though the movie was well made, and all aspects were developed perfectly.
Maurielle is not just a Lego Batman fanatic, but a lover of all things Batman. New or old, if it has anything to do with Batman, she enjoys it. Something about the character always draws her in.
“I love all Batmans,” Maurielle said. “I was a huge fan of The Dark Knight, The Dark Rises, and I just recently watched the new Batman. I gave it a solid 7.5/10. I just really like all superheroes in general, but Lego Batman is the best.”
Not only does Maurielle enjoy Batman’s character, but also she enjoys the other characters and the ways they interact. She especially loves one particular part of The Lego Batman movie involving Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler, and Batman.
“I can actually reenact a scene,” Maurielle said. “My favorite scene is when Alfred tells Batman that he’s not well, and Batman goes ‘I’m a crime-fighting, rapping machine. I don’t feel anything emotionally except for rage, 24/7/ 365, and 1,000,000 percent.’ That’s my favorite dialogue scene.”
Maurielle’s first experience with The Lego Batman movie was not too enjoyable, but she was able to see past it enough to appreciate the fine artistry of the movie.
“The first time I watched The Lego Batman Movie, I went to the theater with my family and I had a stomach ache from all the candy I ate,” Maurielle said. “[It was a] bad after experience, but the movie was great. I liked it because Lego Batman was really funny and I relate because I, too, am really funny.”
Maurielle feels drawn to Batman because of the character traits that they share. She is a funny person, in addition to parts of her personality that have come from the Batman character.
In addition to Batman, Maurielle’s favorite comic characters are Spiderman, and a blind character named Daredevil. In spite of all of the comic characters she loves, Batman, especially his Lego persona, is still in first place for Maurielle.
“In my opinion, The Lego Batman Movie is the best rendition of any Batman ever,” Maurielle said. “He is just so cool, and he is a heavy metal rapping machine, so his music career is really taking off, and I feel like he is the most accurate depiction of who Bruce Wayne is as a person. He’s cool, and he’s just a great guy.”
