A few months ago, my sister introduced me to a small artist named Chloe Ament. When I first started listening, I fell in love with her music and her voice. Chloe bases almost all of her music off of TV shows she watches and books that she reads. Earlier today, she released a new EP called burn & breathe.
I woke up this morning and immediately turned on the EP. It was based on the Shadow and Bone book trilogy, which, I will confess, I have not read. Nevertheless, I was so delighted to listen to it. The EP has seven songs in it and I chose four to review.
“Will You Want Me Now”
I saw the title and quickly clicked on the song. This was the first song I listened to and when it was over I immediately replayed it. “Will You Want Me Now” is a song I could listen to on repeat without ever growing tired of. Her voice is perfect for this song and it is phenomenal. One of my favorite parts of the song goes, “Sharpened my wit against everyone else just so I could survive.” I like this part because I think most people can relate to it. Sharpening your wit by paying attention to detail to protect yourself to keep yourself safe. Overall, this is probably my favorite song in the EP and I would 100% recommend it.
“In All Honesty”
Most of Chloe Ament’s songs are calm and tranquil. This song, however, is more upbeat and bright, which was not what I expected, but it was a pleasant surprise. I think the flow of this song is very different from her others which makes it fun to listen to. This song could be so relatable to so many different people and I loved listening to it.
“Places You Belong”
I’m not entirely sure why I enjoyed this song so much, but I did. This song talks about running out of places you feel safe in and repeats the question, ‘Where do you go?’ many times. “Places You Belong” is a very calm and quiet song and probably wouldn’t stick out to people unless they really listen to the lyrics. “There are places you belong where you haven’t been,” is said once or twice and I liked that lyric. Sometimes people don’t feel like they belong anywhere but they just need to keep searching.
“The Epilogue”
The title of this song was incredible and caught my eye immediately. I love the tone, and immediately added it to almost all of my playlists. There is not a lyric in this song that I don’t love and I would recommend it to everyone. This is definitely up there as one of my favorite songs and I will forever have it on repeat.
Overall, I rate this EP as 5 stars out of 5. I immediately fell in love with the album, and I will listen to it 100 times before I ever begin to grow bored of it.
