A lot of people tend to fixate on their skincare or makeup instead of taking care of their hair. Although I do enjoy caring for my skin and doing my makeup, I have spent years trying to heal my hair from excessive coloring.
From my eighth grade to sophomore year, I would dye my hair to darker colors; that was, until, I tried to go back to blonde. I have tried numerous different products—shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, hair oils—but nothing seemed to work.
Over the summer, I decided to take a more expensive route with big names like Amika, Olaplex, and It’s a 10. This adjustment made a huge difference in both the health and look of my hair.
Amika Normcore Shampoo and Conditioner
Typically, I wash my hair every two or three days, and these bottles have lasted me around four months. Given that they are only nine ounces each, that is pretty good. Each bottle costs about $23, which is a steep price, but it is definitely worth every cent. It is packed with vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants that are said to leave your hair seven times more conditioned. The company has its products free of sulfates, cruelty, and parabens. They are also strong on being vegan, color safe, keratin safe, and TerraCycle. Every time I use this combination, my hair feels so soft. Not only does it make my hair feel nice and soft, but it also smells unbelievably amazing. My bottles are almost empty, and they will definitely be purchased again.
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner
This product isn’t a new addition to my routine, but it is an honorable mention. I have been using this leave-in for a little over a year, and it is one of my favorite things. It smells amazing and lasts so long. Although the price is astronomical, set at a high $40, it is another product worth every cent. It is made to protect hair color, prevent split ends, detangle, reduce frizz, and much more. The bottle has a spray spout with a wide range that covers most of the hair in two squirts. It is designed to be used after a slight towel-drying of the hair and then combed through to spread evenly. This product is made up of silk amino acids, green tea leaf extract, sunflower seed extract, aloe vera, and panthenol; the ingredients all work together to leave the hair feeling happy and healthy. Out of all the leave-in conditioners I have used, this is the only one that I have repurchased time and time again.
Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil
Although I have only been using this oil for a short time, I have noticed an intense difference in the health of my hair. After applying and combing the leave-in through my hair, I tap the bottle of oil on my hands a few times and then rub it through the ends of my hair. It took me a little bit to figure out the perfect amount of oil to use because if you use too much, it will make your hair look greasy. Every person’s desired amount may be different, depending on where you need it and how much hair you have. This oil costs $30, which is a lot of money for the little amount you get in the packaging, but it is once again still worth every cent it costs. It is used to add shine to the hair, prevent breakage, control frizz, and protect the hair from heat usage. Just like any other good hair product, it is free of parabens, sulfates, phosphate, and phthalates. I can’t say much about this product and its prolonged benefits due to the short time I have been using it, but I can say that I have noticed a difference in the look of my hair. It looks so much healthier and actually has a shine to it.
My time combining these products to improve the health of my hair has been very beneficial. Every dollar spent on them has been so worth it, and I can tell my hair is finally getting its health back. I can’t say that every person will have the same luck with these products as I had, but there is a high chance that it will benefit in some way.
So, if anyone is looking for some products to improve their hair, or is just looking for something new to try, these have my stamp of approval.
