The other day, I walked into work and was told “Hey Lily, Your glasses look like something people would’ve worn in 2014!” I honestly didn’t know how to react to that.
A lot of people nowadays wear glasses; almost every person in my friend group has a prescription. In that, they each have their own style of which they wear.
I was prescribed my first pair of glasses when I was nine years old, and have been wearing them since; I always tend to revert back to the classic big black frames.
Whether it be through prescription glasses, sunglasses, or blue-light glasses, eyewear has always been a statement of accessory for the face. There are so many different varieties of shapes, sizes, and colors that a person can choose from to decorate their face.
With all four pairs of glasses that I have had — clear frame, green frame, black frame, reading, and trifocals — each one led me to finding the perfect style for me.
The trends change throughout the years, hence the comment on the year 2014. Personally, I’m a big fan of the frames that take up half of your face. Both my every day glasses and sunglasses are prime examples of that fact.
Even though many brands have come up with their own line of sunglasses, the classics still remain on top. Companies like Oakley and Ray-Ban have been continuously creating new styles, and in turn, have remained two of the most popular brands that we see today.
However, some brands have come upon making very popular styles: Coach and Tory Burch have created some of the most recognizable and trendy sunglasses around. While they do have cute styles, both brands are on the pricier side, which leads to copies which are way more reasonably priced. Personally, my everyday pair of sunglasses are a random pair I found at Old Navy.
Every person has a different face, obviously, making it so they have to find the perfect shape, and size, for their pairs of glasses. With my longer face, I have found that bigger frames fit me better, due to the proportioning of both my face and the glasses. Plus, the fact that my eyes are on the bigger side, the big lenses also makes sense. For people with more rounded shaped faces, a more medium-sized, rounded frame fits that proportion the best. It all just depends on what the person thinks looks best with their own face.
People with glasses used to hear terms such as “four-eyed,” which is now being used in decreasing amounts. All over the world, more and more people are purchasing glasses, whether real or fake, in order to accessorize their faces and fit in with the trends. For example, people have been buying blue-light glasses for everyday wear, not for their intention of blocking out the blue light given off by computers and other largely used items.
As someone who has been wearing glasses for eight years, I love that people are being more inclusive with the style of eyewear. Not only does it make wearing prescription glasses so much better, but it also adds so many more options to pick from when getting a new pair.
