Girls Swim and Dive team has a strong showing at the West Michigan Relays
It was a large team effort this weekend for the Lady Rangers as a variety of relays had top-ten finishes. The meet had 16 teams competing in the swimming portion and 17 in the diving. The swim team finished eighth while the dive team took the gold.
The 200 yard Freestyle Relay swam by senior Felicity Buchmaier, junior Jessica Schellenboom, junior Kara Bolger, and freshman Emily Johnson placed third. Jessica and Felicity, with the help of senior Molly Weiblen and freshman Olivia Hooper, took fifth in the 400 yard Medley Relay. Felicity, Jessica, Olivia, and Emily then teamed up to place fourth in the 4×100 Individual Medley Relay. The dive team, normally competing as individuals, went into this meet as a team. This year’s team is smaller than usual, having just three divers: senior Nicole Carlson, senior Colleen Kramer, and junior Anna Hansen. However, the experienced three proved that a small team doesn’t mean a lack of skill, as they took first out of 17 teams.
The Lady Rangers hope to continue their early success throughout the season; many of the swimmers have their sights set on the State Championship Meet already. The team heads to Spring Lake to compete in a head-to-head meet against the Lakers on Tuesday, September 12. Spring Lake also competed in the large meet this past weekend, placing 15th.
