Player Profile: Lauren Ehrlich
Name: Lauren Ehrlich
Grade: Senior
Sport: Swimming
Lauren was voted to be a co-captain this year by her teammates despite many injuries throughout her swimming career. She has persevered and been successful through numerous hardships that have come her way.
Why do you swim?
“I swim because at a young age I was told I could not play contact sports due to my patellar instability. I was told by doctors to try swimming and have ever since. I have a love-hate relationship with the sport, but I cannot imagine my life without it.”
Who inspires you in swimming?
“My inspiration comes from my teammates and family. I have had two knee surgeries as well as multiple injuries throughout my high school seasons, but they are all so supportive and keep me going.”
What are your plans for the future?
“I am hoping to attend Michigan State University and follow a career in education.”
What is your favorite memory from swimming at FHC?
“A distinct memory would be when my teammates and I tried to get out of practice one day and as a joke one of the girls, Jess Schellenboom, rolled up a chocolate Clif bar and put it in the pool. Then we all told our coach that someone went to the bathroom in the pool, so we couldn’t get in. He obviously figured it out but we could not stop laughing for ten straight minutes.”
What is the best part about being on the swim and dive team?
“The best part of being on the team is getting close with my teammates. All of the girls are so fun and I am blessed to have so many close friendships. Also, cottage weekends are the best.”
What is your favorite diving quote?
“Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” -Heywood Brown
