Varsity baseball falls to Northview 15-14 in tight game
Varsity baseball went into last night’s game with the conference series on the line after splitting the double header with Northview Monday night. After hot offensive nights from both teams, Northview squeaked out a 15-14 win and took the series.
The Wildcats came out strong in the top of the first inning to put up 5 runs early. FHC was able to put up 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd, and both teams had success in the 3rd and 5th to put the Rangers up 12-11. The Wildcats tied it up at 12, but the Rangers put up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th off of a huge single from senior Johnny Irish, who had 3 RBIs on the night. Northview responded to score 3 more runs in the top of the 7th and held strong to seal the 1 run victory.
Junior Adam Tellier went 3-5 on the night with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored, as well as senior Miko Rodriguez going 3-5 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Senior Nate Doolittle had a huge night, going 3-4 with a double and 2 triples, 3 RBIs and a run.
Four different pitchers took the mound for the Rangers as FHC tried a variety of players to try to shut down the hot Wildcat bats. FHC’s defense also struggled against the hitting, as 5 errors were committed.
This close loss will be a motivating factor for the Rangers as they move forward to take on West Ottawa on Friday for a non conference doubleheader and then a conference series against Cedar Springs next week. FHC is now 5-3 overall and in the OK White and will work to hold a winning record.
