Girls varsity soccer falls to Rockford in the district finals 1-0
The Forest Hills Central Rangers girls varsity soccer team took on the Rockford Rams in the district finals on Saturday. They went into the game with hopes of a district championship and sights set on the state finals but unfortunately fell to the Rams 1-0.
“After winning conference we were really hoping to go farther and make it to the state finals just like the team did last year,” junior Megan Piontkowski said. “Sadly, we drew a very strong team to play in the district finals, and we just couldn’t pull it off.”
The Rangers put up a very intense fight, but unfortunately we’re not able to pull it off in the end.
“This was definitely a very hard-fought game, between two very high intensity teams,” junior Grace Kline said. “Even though that was not the outcome we were hoping for, we tried our hardest and that’s all that matters.”
Grace had a very successful season for the Rangers, as she contributed many of the goals and helped create chances for all of her teammates. Grace is really looking to redeem her team next season as her and Megan will be two of the returning players.
“We are saying goodbye to a lot of seniors this year,” Megan said. “However, that won’t stop us from having a successful season next year and working even harder to beat the Rams.”
One of the seniors that has had a huge impact on the team was senior Bree Probst. Bree was a key defensive player for the Rangers these past few years, and was the person that held the backline together.
“This season has been amazing,” Bree said. “We were conference champs, only lost three games, and I would not have wanted a different team to spend my senior year with.”
Even though the Rangers did not go all the way to the state finals as they hoped, they had a remarkable 18-3 season overall.
“You could really tell the Rockford game meant a lot to us,” Bree said. “I honestly don’t think we could have done anything differently, and it was definitely a season to remember.”
