JV volleyball wins one game at the Hudsonville Invitational
On Saturday the JV volleyball team played in the Hudsonville Invitational. FHC played against five of the 12 total teams attending, which included Portage Central, Grand Rapids Christian, Byron Center, Lowell, and Gull Lake. The Rangers won one out of the five games and lost the other four.
The first game FHC played was against Portage Central, which is a very good team. The Rangers ended up losing both games against them 25-17 and 25-22. The second game was against GRC, who beat them last year. This year the Rangers almost won the second game and improved drastically. The final scores were 25-11 and 25-21, with GRC on top. In the third game, FHC was also very close to beating Byron Center, but they weren’t able to outscore the Bulldogs and lost both games 25-20 and 25-23. In the fourth game, the Rangers were playing against Lowell and they won the first set 25-23. In the second set, however, it was very close and the Rangers fell 24-20. In the end, they were able to pull through and beat the Red Arrows 26-24. In the final game against Gull Lake, the Rangers had a more exciting game than the other losses. They won the first set 25-17 but ended up losing the second set 25-22. The Rangers went into the third set, but they couldn’t beat Gull Lake, losing 15-9.
Throughout the tournament freshman Remmie Ingraham had outstanding hits. Along with Remmie, sophomore Katie Costello was a key player, as her sets would set Remmie up for a great hit, making them a power duo. This tournament does not go towards the Rangers’ overall record. Their next game will be against the Forest Hills Northern Huskies on Tuesday.
