Boys varsity tennis places third in the Rockford Quad
On Saturday the boys varsity tennis team played in the Rockford Quad, which consisted of three other teams: Rockford, Grand Rapids Christian, and St. Joe High School. The Rangers competed against some strong competition and were ultimately able to tie for third in the Quad. Throughout the tournament, doubles were able to play very well.
Both doubles three and four went undefeated. Doubles three, which is sophomores Ben Koning and Jeremy James, played exceptionally well. In the first match, they beat Saint Joseph 6-1 and 7-5. In the second match, they beat Grand Rapids Christian 6-4 and 6-1, and finally, they beat Rockford 6-3 and 6-3 in the third match. Doubles one, which is sophomore Chris Battiste and junior Advith Reddy placed second in their flight. They beat Saint Joseph in the first match 7-6 and 6-1. In the second match, doubles one had a hard time communicating and ended up losing their match 6-1 and 6-2 to Rockford. In their final match against Grand Rapids Christian, Chris and Advith were able to beat the Eagles in the second set 6-4 after losing to them in the first set 7-6. In the tiebreaker, both the teams’ score was back and forth. The rally kept on going until the Rangers ended up beating them 10-7. The singles did not have their best outing in the Rockford Quad. Ultimately, the Ranger doubles secured the team’s spot at third.
FHC played against some stiff competition, but they were able to defend themselves. This tournament does not go towards the Rangers’ OK White Conference record, so FHC’s record remains 3-1 only losing to the Huskies of FHN. Today the Rangers will take on Lowell in a conference match. The Red Arrows will provide some quality matches, but the Rangers are ready to play their best.
