Girls JV volleyball places second in the East Grand Rapids Invite
On Saturday, the girls JV volleyball team faced off in the East Grand Rapids JV Invite, which consisted of four other teams: Rockford, Eastern, Hudsonville, and East Grand Rapids. The Rangers were able to advance into the gold bracket and place second in that. Overall the Lady Rangers went 3-1 in the whole invite.
In the first game against Rockford FHC came out very dominant. They knew how to out-strategize the Rams. With the Rangers playing their best volleyball, they were able to beat them 25-15 and 25-14. In the Rangers’ second game, they struggled to gain a lead against Eastern. The game was constantly back and forth, and the Hawks won the first game 25-23. The second game against Eastern was exactly the same as the first, except the Rangers were on the winning side; they won the game 25-23. FHC was able to beat out the Hawks once more to advance to the gold bracket. Their first game in the gold bracket was against Hudsonville. This game was the hardest for the Rangers’. They lost the first game 25-14 and then the second game 25-15. Their final game was against East Grand Rapids. FHC put up a strong frontier and FHC was able to beat the Pioneers 25-18 and 25-15.
Throughout the Invite freshman Grace Hunkins, the team’s libero, and sophomore Emma Lohr were key players. Grace was able to receive almost all of the other team’s hits. She played the entire court, and really went all out during this Invite. Emma was a key player because she was great at covering the net, and she barely let any balls hit the ground.
The Rangers showed great teamwork during this Invite. This tournament does not go towards the Rangers’ OK White conference record, so their record remains 3-1, only losing to Huskies of FHN. The Lady Rangers will be facing off against Lowell on Tuesday on the road.
