Varsity ice hockey falls to EGR 2-1 in overtime
Last Friday night, the boys varsity ice hockey team took on East Grand Rapids at home. In yet another close game against a rival team, the boys fell 2-1 in overtime.
The defenses came out strong for both teams, causing a slow first period that left the score at 0-0 heading into the second. During the second period, EGR scored the first goal of the game to put them up 1-0, where the score would stay for the rest of the second period. Heading into the third period down by a goal, FHC knew they had to get some goals on the board, and that’s just what the Rangers did. With 6:21 left in the period, junior Peter Bardelli shot one past the goalie to tie things up at 1. With a tie in place, the two teams headed into overtime. After another slow start to overtime, EGR managed to find their way up the ice to put in the winning goal and leave the Rangers with a 2-1 loss.
With another loss added to their record, the boys sit with a still impressive record of 11-4-1 on the season. Their next game will take place Friday, Jan. 18 against Rockford at home.
