Crew has successful ergatta over the weekend
More stories from Sam Tuori
On Saturday, the crew team hosted a ten-team regatta for its first meet of the season. Ergattas are very different from normal meets on the water, as they take place on rowing machines, and each individual competes by themselves.
In the coxswain 500-meter race, both senior Dillon Lee for the boys and junior Lindsey Cool for the girls team placed first. Overall, the boys team was very successful. Senior Ben Nickel placed first in his heat, and freshman Kevin McPoland placed second overall in the boys novice division, as well as Tom Tomsheck placing fourth overall in the open weight boys division.
Along with Lindsey, junior Kendra Wolffis placed second overall for the lightweight division, and there were several other top-ten finishes for both the boys and the girls.
The team as a whole placed third out of ten teams, falling to two excellent teams in Rockford and East Grand Rapids. Although they didn’t win, the Rangers were able to earn bragging rights over rivals Forest Hills Eastern and Northern.
