Varsity baseball takes the series against Cedar Springs with 9-0 win
Senior Luke Herzog went 3-4 with 3 RBIs to lead the Rangers to a dominant 9-0 victory over Cedar Springs to take the conference series.
Luke sparked a 3-run first inning with a basehit single to give the Rangers an early lead. From there, FHC would score 1 run in the third and fourth before posting 4 runs in the top of the seventh to slam the door on the Red Hawks. Luke and senior Ethan Vredenberg were big in the seventh, as they both drove in runs.
The Rangers tallied 14 hits on the night, with Luke and senior Adam Tellier leading the way with 3 apiece. Seniors Cole Coughlin, Joe Szczepanek, and Kyle Wojczynski all managed multiple hits as well. Luke had the most RBIs with 3, while Ethan and Kyle each had 2. Adam scored 3 runs on the night, while junior Liam Nyberg crossed the plate twice for the Rangers.
In addition to going 1-2 with a walk and an RBI at the plate, sophomore Joey Wise took the mound for FHC in a dominant performance. He maintained the shutout through all seven innings while allowing just 4 hits and earning 5 strikeouts.
This win puts the Rangers at 5-6 (5-2) on the year and gives them a great shot at winning the OK White. FHC will need to win the series against Forest Hills Northern, Ottawa Hills, and Lowell in the remaining weeks of the season to fulfill its goal of being conference champions. The boys will next play on Monday for a conference doubleheader against Ottawa Hills.
