Cross Country teams both finish fifth at the Hudsonville Invite
The Cross Country teams kicked off their season last night at the Hudsonville Invite, with both the boys and the girls teams placing fifth out of eight teams. With this being their first race of the season, nerves started to build up as the race began. The teams had some uncertainty about pacing and running groups, but as the race continued, they started to run more like themselves.
The girls team was lead by senior Nicole Marco, who took fifth overall with a time of 19:56.1. Closely following was junior Whitney Currie at 20:56.1, taking sixth place. The third-best runner for the girls was senior Chloe Zeien, coming in with a time of 21:35.6. With these times and the other runners trailing behind, they ensured the fifth-place spot for FHC.
For the boys team, senior Gabe Carlson ran a great time of 16:34.1, putting him in second place out of the 221 runners. Junior Kyle James-Heer also finished in the top 15 with a time of 17:25.6. Following Kyle was senior Nicholas Hatley at 17:55.8.
Following this first race of the season, the team will look to build off the early-season jitters when they run in the first conference race, which takes place at Lowell on Wednesday, September 4th.
