Girls swim and dive team loses to Rockford in first head-to-head
The girls swim and dive team lost in a tough one Thursday night, scoring 64 points to Rockford’s 120. This was the team’s first head-to-head this season, with the next three meets being against several opponents. This loss was a hard pill to swallow, but the girls will look to improve their results in next week’s meet against both Hudsonville and Holland Christian.
The Rams may have snagged first in every event, but FHC took several second places in both relays and individual events. Senior Sarah Schenck took second in both the 100-yard fly and the 200-yard individual medley with another strong performance at this meet. In the 500-yard free, junior Ellie Field placed second with a time of 5:52, losing by just a second to first place. Olivia Hooper also showed well, securing second place in the 100-yard backstroke event. Finally, Jessica Doyel got second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11. However, this ultimately wasn’t enough, as Rockford ended up routing the Rangers.
Coming off their first head-to-head, the girls will be going back to tri meets, this time facing off against the Hudsonville Eagles and the Holland Christian Maroons. This will be a tough meet and will once again test how competitive this team truly is.
