Freshman football ties Northview 0-0 in bizarre game
The freshman football team tied Northview this week with both sides being held scoreless. The game is the boys’ fifth contest of the season, and this game brings their record to a bizarre 3-0-2.
The game was dominated by defense on both sides. The first quarter was full of punts on fourth downs as both teams had their offenses picked apart by the opposing team’s defense. The Rangers struggled to move the ball, a problem that was punctuated in the first quarter by a fumble by Levi Mackenzie. The second quarter was more of the same with yet another fumble from Levi and no scores on either side.
Coming out of halftime, the Rangers were hyped up to score in the second half. On the kickoff return, Chase Robinson had an explosive run, running it back almost 75 yards and giving the Rangers their best opportunity to score all game. Unfortunately, the rock-solid Northview defense stopped them and forced yet another punt. The game trudged on with more of the same. Justin Osterhouse fumbled a wild snap near the end of the third quarter, but the Ranger defense stopped their drive cold. Going into the fourth quarter, another fumble by Justin expressed the inability of either team to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.
The game ended in a 0-0 tie, making this the Rangers’ second tie this season. The Rangers are still undefeated, however, and they hope to continue this going into their next game against Cedar Springs.
