Bryce Hysong and Will Richardson lead varsity wrestling to 4-0 record at the Hawk Duals
FHC Wrestling went to Eastern on Saturday for the Hawk Duals and finished off the day 4-0. They defeated Muskegon (55-9), Northview 48-24, FHE 39-27, and Holland 42-24. Leading the day was junior Bryce Hysong and sophomore Will Richardson who both went 4-0.
The day started off with a dual against FHE, where senior Sammy Postlewait faced off against one of the Hawks’ best wrestlers. In a long back-and-forth brawl, Sammy ended up with a one point win that gave the Rangers a huge advantage. Junior Mason Myers also came up clutch for FHC, clawing his way to a big victory in overtime after tying it up in the third. Sophomore Evan Elzinga frustrated his state-qualifying opponent—Gabe Hassan—in their match as well, and staved off the pin.
Throughout the rest of the day, the Rangers cruised through, getting pins from junior Isaac Gurley and Will Richardson. They outworked every other opponent they matched up against, but had some key learning points throughout. Although they were unmatched in this dual, the Rangers gained some key skills that will help them out later this season.
“Overall, the 4-0 finish is indicative of our team’s selflessness,” Head coach Brad Anderson said. “We gutted-out some victories that were a coin flip on paper. We were able to minimize damage in the matches that didn’t go our way. Our team showed great engagement on the bench and every match mattered.”
