The boys swim and dive team took sixth in their fourth meet of the year. The meet had ten teams, all of them big contenders, making this meet a big challenge for the Rangers. They swam well, however, and did not shy away from really tough opponents they had faced before, such as Zeeland and Rockford.

The meet began with the 200-yard medley relay, which the Rangers took seventh in. That team of junior Josh Stevenson, sophomore Benji Zorn, senior CJ Hier, and freshman Ben Rogala swam the time of 1:44.91. Next up was the first individual event: the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Avery LeTourneau flew in this race, securing second place with an excellent time of 1:46.98. This was a huge contribution to the team score, setting the Rangers off on a good path.

Unfortunately, the 200-yard individual medley was not as successful. Sophomore Andrew Kerssies took 24th in that race with a time of 2:24.47. Ben built on that, taking 17th in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 23.57.

The diving event provided a massive victory for the Rangers, with sophomore Cole Hysong winning the event with his impressive score of 218.15. CJ kept the ball rolling by taking fourth in the 100-yard fly with his time of 54.09, beating fifth place by just .05 seconds.

Avery fell just a notch from his prior second-place finish with a still-excellent fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with his time of 50.02. Unfortunately, this stream of top-five finishes was unsustainable, and they dipped back to solid performances. Andrew had a good race in the grueling 500-yard freestyle, taking fifteenth with his time of 5:25.60. The team of senior Dani Ahmetovic, freshman Gavin Cai, Benji, and Avery then took sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with their time of 1:34.95.

CJ killed it in the 100-yard backstroke, taking second with a phenomenal time of 54.62. Gavin then took tenth in the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 1:06.43, a solid performance. To finish out the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ben, CJ, Avery, and senior Kyle Carter took eighth with their time of 3:26.73.

This was a good meet for the Rangers and gave them a great opportunity to face tough competition. They toppled Rockford, who they had lost to in prior meets, and got close to beating Zeeland, who got fifth place to the Rangers’ sixth. Next meet will be the Forest Hills Invitational, where the Rangers will face off against several conference opponents, including their former teammates in the Forest Hills Northern/Eastern team.
