Varsity volleyball opens season with 3-0 victory over FHE

Last night, the varsity volleyball team took on the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks in its first game of the season. Despite the season being postponed for a few weeks and having several of their first games canceled, the Rangers didn’t miss a beat and came out on top, winning in three sets.

In the first set, the Rangers picked up right away and came out on top with a score of 25-23. Senior Julia Bouma had a great first set, securing five digs to assist in their first-set victory. The second set proved the Rangers dominance over the Hawks yet again as they continued on with their streak, winning 25-11. Another senior, Katie Costello, had five setting assists in the second set, and all of these proved to be successful. In the third and final set, the Rangers plowed through the Hawks for one last go and ended up defeating them 25-15, and as a result of this, won the game.

Throughout the game, there were several Rangers who had powerful performances and helped dramatically in their win. The senior duo of Morghan Tilton and Katie combined for 28 assists, contributing a large part in the team’s win. Along with them, junior Brooklyn Conner had 15 kills, leading the team in this category for the night. Lastly, freshman Avery Weslow, in her debut appearance as a Ranger, proceeded to have two kills along with three digs.

This win starts the varsity volleyball team off with a 1-0 record. Their next game will be Tuesday, September 15 against Greenville. This game will be their first home game of the season and will begin at 6:00 pm.
