After a close loss to Lowell, the boys varsity soccer team played its second game of the season against a very talented Grand Rapids Christian team. The Eagles have a well-recognized offense that the Rangers held back for the majority of the game. Unfortunately, GRC managed to finish the game off with back-to-back goals late in the second half to capture the win 2-1.

The Rangers started off with some nerve as they faced the highly-talented GRC team. Once they settled in, though, they started firing on all cylinders: saving shots, creating opportunities, and forming a blockade against the opposing offense. From there, the half was all FHC, led by the senior captain duo of Matthew Mahoney and Mason Corcoran, who disrupted anything the Eagles had planned on both ends of the field. Mason was matched up against star GRC forward Nick Cassiday, who was a bit flustered by the stellar speed and ability from the senior captain. The offense was able to create a few chances and even managed to get a goal allowed by a slip up from an Eagle center back. Sophomore Noah Gleason took advantage and buried the ball in the back of the net to go up 1-0 at the half.

The second half was a different story for the Rangers, however, as they planned to bunker down to preserve the win over the relentless opposing offense. This worked phenomenally for 35 minutes until a minor defensive slip up led to a free-kick, which was capped off by a goal from GRC. The Eagles took this momentum and managed to get yet another goal with 1:30 left in the game, winning the game 2-1.

The Rangers now fall to 0-2 in both conference and regular play but have a big opponent next week Tuesday, September 15 against EGR on Senior Night.
