Boys varsity soccer falls to Byron Center 1-0 in a defensive matchup

Coming off a win from West Catholic, the boys varsity soccer team is hoping for a huge turning point in the season. This wasn’t the case, however, with their 1-0 loss to Byron Center. Although they took a loss, the boys came out of the game with at least one good thing: their defense.

In the first half of this game, senior Jaden Talley had some incredible saves to keep the Bulldogs at a standstill. As for the offense, the Rangers had opportunity’s lined up, but couldn’t capitalize. Sophomore forward Noah Gleason created a multitude of stellar chances to score, but all ended with the same result.

The second half started much like the first, until Byron Center managed to create chaos on a rather sloppy corner kick, which led to an easy shot from the right side of the net. The rest of the half, FHC fought for the equalizer, but the Bulldogs were bunkered down in a defense-centered formation, in which the Rangers couldn’t puncture. With that, the clock ran down to all zeros as the Bulldogs celebrated their 1-0 win.

The Rangers are now 1-5 on the season and 0-5 in the OK White. Their next opponent is Forest Hills Northern on Thursday, September 24 at 6:45.
