Both the boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Byron Center yesterday, and the Rangers came out with an excellent performance. The boys finished 2nd yesterday while the girls finished 3rd.
“Both squads had their best performance yet,” head coach Ryan Schipper said. “Both squads had 3 finishers in the top 10, and we were the only school to do that at this event.”
The boys took off first and as they left a cloud of dust behind them. The Rangers finished with 3 top 10 finishers for the first time this season. The top finisher for the guys was junior Sam Yeager. He finished in 3rd place with a time of 16 minutes and 41 seconds. Close behind him was senior Kyle James-Heer who finished 7th with a time of 16 minutes and 56 seconds. Lastly, sophomore Ethan Krampe finished in 10th place with a time of 17 minutes and 7 seconds. Overall a great day for the Rangers as they came in a season-high 2nd place finish as a team.
“I think we performed the best we have this season,” senior Tanner Wooden said. “The guys finished very strong today, and that set us out from the rest of the teams there.”
The girls took off next and as they usually do and started off slow, but finished very strong and came out with 3 top 10 finishers just like the guys. The lady Ranger’s top finisher was freshman Clara James-Heer. She finished in 1st place with a time of 18 minutes and 9 seconds. Just a minute off the pace was senior Whitney Currie. She finished 6th place with a time of 19 minutes and 6 seconds. Lastly, freshman Peyton Ludwig finished in 10th place with a time of 19 minutes and 42 seconds. Overall, the lady Rangers finished in 3rd place just behind Grand Rapids Christian.
The next meet for the Rangers will be on Friday, October 9th at Riverside Park for the Ottawa Hills Fall Invitational.
