Girls varsity field hockey loses final regular season game to the Ann Arbor Pioneers 7-0
The girls varsity field hockey took on the Pioneers of Ann Arbor on Tuesday. With a win on Tuesday, the girls would end their regular season 3-4-2. Sadly for the team, the girls could not get the job done as they were defeated 7-0. Some key players from Tuesday’s game were FHC freshman Alayna Gshwind, FHE junior Brooke Toigo, and FHE senior Amber DeJonge.
With this game being a must-win, the girls came out motivated before the game. It was their final regular season game, and the final regular season game for FHE senior Amber DeJonge. The only senior on the team brought leadership and grit to inspire this young team. The girls were motivated and inspired before the game; however, they came out rather flat to start the game. A tough start offensively led them to play one-sided. Since the game was one-sided, they were forced to play defense for majority of the game, and as a result, the Pioneers took over offensively. By the time it was halftime, the girls were down 6-0. Amber gave an extraordinary halftime speech encouraging the girls to step up defensively which would lead them to offensive success. As a result, the girls shut down the Pioneers offensive attack only allowing 1 goal the rest of the game. Unfortunately, they could not score, losing 7-0.
The girls fall to 2-5-2 with a conference record of 0-4-2. This is the last regular season game for the girls as they prepare for the playoffs. As of right now, the girls will play on October 27 against a team that is still to be announced. A state championship for girls would be tough, but possible if the girls give all their effort and focus for the next few weeks.
