JV cross country has disappointing day at the Kent-Ottawa County Meet

The Ranger JV cross country team traveled to the Gainey Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids for its final meet of the year. The Rangers did not have an ideal day as the guys came in sixth and the girls came in fifth.

“Even though the stats show that we had a bad day, our team morale and results were better than expected,” coach Ryan Schipper said. “We achieved three personal records and two season-best times this past meet, and we were happy with the way the team atmosphere and results looked like at the end of the season.”

The guys took off first and out of the gates, the Rangers couldn’t find their rhythm from the start of the race til the end. The top finisher for the Rangers was junior Korbin Thompson who finished in 29th place with a time of 18 minutes and 53 seconds. Other notable finishers were sophomores Nick Fransisco and Ian Mahoney, who both finished in the top 40. Overall, the Rangers couldn’t find their rhythm and finished in sixth place out of seven teams.

The girls took off next and had an almost mirror performance as the guys did. The top finisher for the lady Rangers was freshman Nora Blok, who finished in 15th place with a time of 21 minutes and 46 seconds. Other notable finishers on the girls’ side were sophomore Marissa Lunt and freshman Kendall Gleason who both finished in the top 35. Overall, the girls finished fifth out of six teams to finish their season.

The JV cross country season is over, but the varsity team will be racing this Saturday, October 24th at the Cedar Springs Elementary Grounds for the MHSAA Pre-Regional round.
